Rakhi

Rakshabandhan or Rakhi is the most popular festival of India, it falls on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravan. This is a festival of relationship and affection in which a sister ties a Rakhi, the thread of love around the right hand wrist of her brother. Rakhi means a bond of protection this makes the brother bound to protect their sisters from any trouble or wound.

According to a popular story the queen Karmavati of Chittor was unable to fight the army of Bahadur Shah, who laid siege on her kingdom, so she sent a Rakhee to Humayun, a mughul king. Himayun carried out his scared brotherly duty and protected her opposing his own soldier.

Rakhi is a pledge exchanged between a brother and sister cementing their relationship. Sisters ties a colorful thread on a decorative sting around the wrist of her brother, then they sweeten each others with sweet and exchange gifts.

This is an annual festival celebrated very joyfully by all the brothers and sisters. This is a festival which touches the heart of one and all.
