Dusshera

Dusshera or Vijaydashmi is one of the big festival celebrated all over India. Dusshera means the tenth day, being the tenth day of the Hindu month of Ashwin. It is believe that Dusshera commemorates the victory of lord Rama over Ravana of Lanka, and the rescue of his wife Sita. On this day gigantic effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhkaran and his son Meghnath are placed in open places. Actors dressed as lord Rama, Lakshman, Sita and Hanuman arrives and shoots arrows of fire at these effigies, stuffed with firecrackers, and soon the fire is blazing and Ravana's body along with Meghnath and Kumbhkaran are left to burn with bangs booms of fire crackers.

Fairs are usually held on this occasion. People merely enjoy this festival as burning of Ravana, make the devotees to remember to burn up the impurities and selfishness in their own heart. Dusshera marks the triumph of good over evil.
