Diwali

Diwali is one of the most lively and well known of the Indian festival. Diwali is one Hindu festival that unites the whole India. It is a five day Hindu festival which occurs on the fifteenth day of Kartika just on the dawn of Ammawassa. Diwali is also known as the festival of lights. This festival is the abbreviation of the Sanskrit word Deepavali - Deepa meaning light and Avali, means row of light. It is believe that on this day lord Rama entered Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile.

Diwali is popularly known as the festival of lights. during this festival homes are cleaned and windows are opened to welcome Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. During Diwali oil lamps known as Diya burned throughout the night, all building are illuminated with millions of twinkling oil lamps. Gifts are exchanged and sweets are prepared during Diwali. The celebration of the festival is invariably accompanied by the explosion of fireworks.

Diwali on the whole is the most enthusiastically enjoyed festival in India. It is the festival with more socio-religious bond that people share with each other. It is a personal, people oriented festival when families and friends meet, enjoy and maintain a word of closeness. It is the celebration of victory of good over evil, and the glory of brightness.
