Sawantwadi

Sawantwadi is located in Sindhudurg district, at an altitude of 690m. Nestling in the Sahyadri Mountains, it is surrounded by thick forests and verdant hills and valleys. There are numerous viewpoints that offer panoramic vistas of the valley. Hiranya Keshi offers hours of fun for anglers. Nagarta Falls and Narayangad are perfect for picnicking.

Sawantwadi was once the capital of Sindhudurg. The palace of the Maharaja of Sawantwadi still exists here. Laquerware, wooden toys, and artificial fruit making are major attractions of the place and have an international demand. Tourists can enjoy the their trip to Sawantwadi through out the year, except during monsoon. Other attractive places are the Moti Lake, Narendra Park, and the Narendra hill. Besides this, Vithal temple, Hanuman temple, and Raghunath market are the places to be seen.

By Air : Nearest airport is Belgaum at 64-km.                                                                                     

By Train : Nearest railway station is Sawantwadi at 28-km on Konkan Railway                                         

By Road : State Transport and luxury buses run from Vengurla, Belgaum, Sawantwadi and Ratnagiri to Amboli. The distance of various highways Mumbai-Amboli, 549-km; Pune-Amboli 390-km; Ratnagiri- Amboli, 215-km.
